ASP vs PHP

I learn about ASP and PHP today in Authoring class. ASP is the short term for Active Server Pages while PHP is Hypertext Preprocessor.

Here's i differentiate between these two programming language that are commonly used to create websites.

-ASP needs Microsoft server for the website to work -can run using Linux	-Run using Linux or unis server -can run on NT server
-very much similar to the syntax and interface of Visual Basic Programming	-uses C/C++ as base language and most syntax are similar with each other
-need to purchase for windows with IIS installed on the server.	-costing and expenses at no cost since Linux is open source
-need to purchase MS-SQL (Microsoft product)	-flexible with database connectivity -My SQL not cost nothing.
-not really quickee -uses an overhead server and is uses a COM based architecture.	-Loading speed quicker because it runs in its very own memory space
-need to buy additional tools to work with its programs.	-tools associated with the program are mostly open source (no cost)

In my opinion, both of them have their own advantages and etc. I just need to think which server gives me more benefits in creating websites. Hmmmm... start to think...

Motion Guide

I created the ant animation walking through the tunnel using motion guide in Flash CS3. Let's take a look at my so 'cute' lil ant walking ' tekedek-kedek' in the tunnel in the Flash Video below.

Here's the steps to do motion guide in Flash CS3.

1. Insert Layer 1 and name it background and Insert Keyframe at Frame 1. Draw the tunnel like in the video using Line Tool.

 

2. Insert Layer 2 and name it ant and Insert Keyframe at Frame 1. Draw ant using Oval Tool and Pencil Tool. Select the ant and convert it to Movie Clip symbol . ( Modify>>Convert to Symbol>>Movie Clip)

3. In Layer 1 and 2 go to Frame 50 and insert keyframe.

4. Add a motion guide layer. The layer 2 (ant) has instantly become linked to this layer, become the guided layer.

5. Select the Pencil tool . In the Tools panel, go to the end of it and choose the Smooth option for drawing with your pencil.

6.Click and start dragging with the Pencil tool to draw a guide follow the tunnel.

 7. In layer 2, use the selection tool to move the movie clip. Just click and drag it to new position. Go in between Frame 1 and 50. You can insert keyframe in the frame between Frame 1 and Frame 50 wherever you like and move the ant to new position to make it look more realistic.

8. Test your movie.. Ctrl+ Ent

Shape Tween

Alright, now i'm gonna provide steps in creating shape tween like my flash animation video below :

It's easy to create shape tween using Flash CS3.

1. Insert Frame 1 and insert Keyframe. Type word 'Flash' using Text Tool in stage. Select the word Flash and break apart it. (Modify>>Break Apart). And select again and break apart it again. (Modify>>Break Apart). Convert it to graphic symbol (Modify>>Convert to symbol>>Graphic).

2. Go to Frame 25 and insert Keyframe. Draw star shape using Polystar Tool in stage and convert to graphic symbol (Modify>>Convert to symbol>>Graphic).

3. Go to one frame in between Frame 1 and Frame 25 and right click choose motion tween.

4. Test your movie using Ctrl + Ent

Motion Tween

This is animated bouncing ball where i created using Flash. To do this animation, I was using tweening in Flash. 

Tweening is refer to animating a sliding movements of objects in Flash. 

Motion tweening : object motion position, is one of the method in motion tweening that allows objects to be chage to different position.

How to create a motion tween (bouncing ball) in Flash CS3

1.  Draw a ball using Oval Tool and paint it. Then select the object and convert it to graphic symbol. 

(Modify >>Convert to symbol>>Graphic) . 

2. Go to the timeline and right click frame 1. Insert keyframe. Now right click frame 10 and select Insert Keyframe.

3. Go to Frame 10, change your graphic symbol (ball) in anyway you feel like. You can use the Free Transform tool to make it smaller, larger, or drag it to a different place on the stage. In this case you want to drag the ball like it bouncing. So, u drag the ball from up to down.

4. Return to Frame 1 and right click at the frame and  select Motion Tween. Now, if you look at the timeline, an  arrow should be in the empty frames between Frame 1 and 10. This means that a Motion Tween will animate your symbol from the position in Frame 1 to the position in Frame 2.

5. Test your movie by clicking Ctrl + Ent .

Onion Skinning

Do you guys know what is 'onion skin' and i'm not talking about the plant??

ok. i googled and this is what i found based on Wikipedia

Onionskin or onion skin is a thin, light-weight, strong, often translucent paper. It was usually used with carbon paper for typing duplicates in a typewriter, for permanent records where low bulk was important, or for airmail correspondence.

There's a story behind it. We have to draw a cartoon using Onion Skin tool in Flash CS3. So, i try to do it by watching the video tutorial about it and yeah.. the onion skinning its like translucent paper which we can trace exactly the same with original image. Let me tell you step by step on how to do onion skin in flash CS3. First, i would like to show you the original image and the image that i draw.. almost look the same.. and of course imitate image that i drawn cannot 'lawan' with the original image.. tee hee..

Original Image (Sin Chan)

I think most of you are familiar with this Japanese cartoon Sin Chan.. So, i draw exactly the same image by using onion skin tool in Flash CS3. And this is what I got.

Haha.. almost look the same.. but my image look not really smooth drawing.. and the colors of the image were not the same.. hee.. but it's alright.. my first trial using Onion Skin tool in Flash CS3. 

Here I provide you the steps to do onion skinning in Flash CS3.

1. First, you select image you want to draw and import to library. As you can see, i choose Sin Chan image.

    Click>>File>>Import>>Import to Library

2. Insert new keyframe in Frame 2.

    Right Click>>Insert Keyframe.

3. On Frame 1, click and drag your image to the stage.

4. On Frame 2, click on onion skin tool so you can see the same version of the original image.

For your information, the buttons for onion-skin mode can be found at the bottom of the timeline, to the far left before the division marking the layer control area. There are two buttons--one for onion skin, and to the right of that, one for onion skin outlines.

5. Start tracing your image on the Frame 2. Once you are done, you not longer need your original image.

6. Remove the first keyframe by right click on it and select remove frame.

7. You, now have one frame. Then, turn off the onion skin tool.

8. Final step, click the image and convert to graphic symbol.

    click>>modify>>convert to symbol>>graphic

    The image (graphic symbol) is in library.

Drawing in Flash CS3

This is the image that i draw using Flash CS3.

heee... its like water colour painting.. i'm playing with brush tool to make the image looks like water colour painting.. Alright then, I will reflect the process of drawing and colouring this image.

These are the tools in Flash CS3 that i used to draw the image.

1. Line Tool
2. Selection Tool
3. Rectangle Tool
4. Oval Tool
5. Pencil Tool
6. Pen Tool

While, these are the tools in Flash CS3 that i used to colour the image.

1. Paint Bucket Tool
2. Brush Tool

Let me 'story mory' you all on how i draw and colour the image using the tools that i listed.

For the mountains i was using Line Tool. I just draw straight line on the stage and then i drag the middle of the line until it looks like curve. Then it looks like a mountain. I just copy and paste for other 3 mountains. For the ball, of course i was using Oval Tool. For the 'big umbrella' , i was using Rectangle Tool to draw the 'batang payung' while for the triangle of the umbrella i was using Pen Tool. I connect three points of triangle using Pen Tool to create the umbrella. For the ship, i was using Pen, Pencil and Selection Tool. For the sun, i was using Pencil Tool.

After i've done drawing, i colour the image using Paint Bucket Tool. To use Paint Bucket Tool, you must choose the gap size properly or else the Paint Bucket Tool will not work. For the final touch and water colour painting effect, i was using the Brush Tool. The Brush Tool draws brushlike strokes, as if you were painting. That's why my image looking like water colour painting. You just have to be smart in playing with colours and creativity. I was also using the WACOM as platform to colour the image as it easy to use the 'Pen' instead of the mouse.
